Thomson Grass Valley ProCoder 3 provides powerful tools to prepare source video for conversion. Features such as stitching allow multiple source clips in different formats and resolutions to be linked together to create one or more target clips. Video and audio filters provide useful enhancement tools such as bitmap overlay, cropping and volume adjustment to ensure perfect input before encoding. Target filters add the flexibility to make specific adjustments for particular output formats.

Utilizing the full power of your CPU through Canopus scalable technology architecture, ProCoder 3's conversion speed increases with the power of the system. In many cases, ProCoder 3 can transcode files faster than realtime, outperforming many costly hardware encoders.

Thomson Grass Valley ProCoder 3 includes conversion options for many popular video codecs out of the box, including the high-quality, high-speed, Canopus DV and Canopus HQ codecs, and supports additional codecs already installed on the system. ProCoder 3 also imports still images for animation sequence encoding and additional external audio files for music and narration, or for multiplexing with elementary video streams for output.

Using assigned encoding parameters, ProCoder 3 can be configured to automatically encode any video file copied to a designated watch folder, on either the same local PC or a Windows-based, shared folder on your network. Using standard Windows networking, the watch folder feature can enable anyone, including editors on Mac OS-based systems, to encode video with ProCoder.

Prioritize multiple transcoding jobs using the ProCoder 3 Queue Manager. Keep track of which jobs are being encoded, and pause, remove or restart jobs as needed. The Queue Manager also provides information on each job's progress, as well as warnings or error messages if they occur.

ProCoder 3 fully supports HD (720p, 1080i and 1080p) and can transcode between HD and SD seamlessly. It can also encode HD resolutions and frame rates between formats, including MPEG-2, H.264, Windows Media and QuickTime. ProCoder 3 is fully compliant with HDV-1 and HDV-2 MPEG-2 Transport streams captured from HDV cameras and decks.

ProCoder 3 can also be run as an easy-to-use wizard that prompts users with a few simple questions about the desired target medium. When engaged, the wizard automatically sets the optimal quality settings for the selected medium, while still providing advanced controls for manual customization.
